Mission
Linga is a social media app that instantly translates video speech into any language with realistic mouth sync, natural tone, and emotional expression. Created as my BFA thesis at Pratt, the project explores how AI can break language barriers and support more creative and inclusive communication.
The Problem
Language creates barriers in a world where video is how we communicate. Most content exists in a single language, making it difficult for creators to reach global audiences and for families and communities to share meaningful content. Current solutions like subtitles interrupt the experience.
The Solution
I designed Linga as a social platform that uses an integrated AI translator to convert video speech into multiple languages in real time. The system preserves the speaker’s voice, tone, and facial movements.
Interface Design
The interface was designed to feel familiar to existing social platforms like TikTok and Instagram for easy user integration while also introducing AI translation features.
Product Launch Trailer
As part of my thesis show, I created a product launch trailer to introduce Linga and communicate its vision.
Thesis Show
Linga was presented at the Pratt Institute Thesis Show as a large poster banner. The display included a QR code that allowed visitors to scan and explore the app themselves. This interactive setup sparked conversations about AI translation and how emerging technologies could become integrated into more digital platforms in the future.
Outcome
Presenting Linga led to discussions about whether technology like this could help bridge language barriers and if a product like Linga is feasible in today’s world. The project opened dialogue around how AI might shape the next generation of social media and global connection.
